Stephen Muers
Head of Strategy and Market Development, Big Society Capital
Big Society Capital is a social impact investor in the UK and has identified the ageing society as a theme where there is great potential for investment in organisations with a social mission to make a significant impact. Stephen leads BSC’s overall strategy and business planning, as well as business development across several social issues including ageing. He sits on the executive team and the investment committee.
Stephen joined Big Society Capital in 2016 after a series of senior roles in government. Most recently he was Director, Criminal Justice Policy at the Ministry of Justice, but has also worked in the Cabinet Office, the Department for Energy and Climate Change and the Homes and Communities Agency among others. He has been a non-executive director of an NHS trust, is a Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Policy Research, University of Bath, and has published several papers on policy making. He is also a trustee of the Friends Provident Foundation and of Fair Trials, the international criminal justice charity.
