Director of Ageing Research at King’s College London (ARK)

Dr Richard Siow is the Director of Ageing Research at King’s College London (ARK), a cross-Faculty consortium of researchers taking a multidisciplinary approach to better understand the mechanisms of ageing, improving health-span and the social impact of ageing. He was a graduate of King’s College London (BSc Nutrition and PhD Cardiovascular Physiology) and returned to King’s as a Lecturer in Physiology in 2001 after a postdoctoral position in the Department of Medicine, University of Cambridge. He is currently a Reader in Vascular Biology, School of Cardiovascular Medicine & Sciences and was formerly Vice-Dean (International), Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine at King’s. His research team focuses on the role of phytochemicals and nutrigenomics in cardiovascular ageing. He has numerous publications in the field of vascular ageing and high profile international collaborations, (e.g. National University of Singapore, Harvard Medical School, Charite Berlin and Technion - Israel Institute of Technology). Richard championed the Framework Partnership between King’s College London and Unilever through his research collaborations and sabbatical at their global R&D Centres. He is an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, UK Lead for International Society on Ageing & Disease, Committee member of the European Vascular Biology Organisation, European Society for Microcirculation and Society for Free Radical Research Europe. He is also an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Genomics and on the Editorial Board of Free Radical Research and a Guest Editor for Experimental Gerontology, Frontiers in Physiology and Free Radical Biology and Medicine. Richard has previously been an advisor to the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology and the Westminster Forum on Nutrition and Health.
